Classification of Angles
The ramp at a Santo Domingo Metro station, the roof of a house, the hands of a clock in the Zona Colonial: they are all angles. To talk about them precisely, you need to know how to name them and measure them. By the end of this page, you'll be able to say what angle the hands form at 3:30 and how steep a safe ramp is.
Angles by Measure
The measure of an angle is how wide it opens between its two sides. It is measured in degrees ($^\circ$) with a protractor. Depending on that opening, angles get a name.
Angles smaller than $180^\circ$ are called convex. An angle between $180^\circ$ and $360^\circ$ is called concave (or reflex). If a convex angle measures $115^\circ$, the concave angle that completes the full turn measures $360^\circ - 115^\circ = 245^\circ$.

In the world of first-person shooter (FPS) video games, the "Field of View" (FOV) is the angle that the player can see on their screen. An eSports player is setting up their monitor and is deciding between three settings: $90^\circ$, $115^\circ$ and $180^\circ$.
Classify each of these angles according to its size. In addition, if a motion sensor covers the remaining reflex angle to complete the circle in the $115^\circ$ setting, what size would that angle be?

Two streets in a Santo Domingo neighborhood intersect forming four angles. If angle $\hat{1}$ and angle $\hat{2}$ are adjacent, and we know that angle $\hat{1}$ is twice angle $\hat{2}$, how much does each measure? Classify both angles and explain what relationship angles $\hat{1}$ and $\hat{3}$ have based on their position.
Vertical Angles
When two streets or two lines cross, four angles are formed. The ones facing each other are vertical angles.

Complementary and Supplementary Angles
Two complementary or supplementary angles don't have to be next to each other. They only need to add up to $90^\circ$ or $180^\circ$.
Work out quickly: a) The complementary angle of $65^\circ$. b) The supplementary angle of $110^\circ$. c) The complementary angle of an angle of $45^\circ$.

An architect is designing an inclined ramp. The angle that the ramp makes with the ground (angle of elevation) is acute. It is known that its complementary angle is exactly four times the angle of elevation.

Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds
When more precision is needed, the degree is divided into smaller parts.
You operate the same way as with hours: add or subtract column by column and "carry" from one unit to the other when you go past $60$.

Angle Bisector
The bisector is the ray that starts at the vertex and divides the angle into two equal angles.
The two angles formed each measure half of the original, and they are consecutive because they share the vertex and the bisector as a side. A $50^\circ$ angle is divided into two of $25^\circ$. Notice also that a straight angle ($180^\circ$) split by a ray into a right angle and another angle gives two adjacent angles: the other one is also right.
