Perimeters and areas of polygons

To find out how much fencing you need, you measure the perimeter. To find out how much grass, carpet or paint you need, you measure the area. They are two different questions and each has its own formula.

Perimeter

Area of the parallelogram and the trapezium

Animation of a parallelogram and a trapezium: in the parallelogram, the triangle on the left side is moved to the right side and forms a rectangle; in the trapezium, a copy is rotated through 180° and fitted alongside to form a parallelogram with base B + b. Then the shapes return to their starting positions. parallelogram: A = b · h bB trapezium: A = (B + b) · h / 2
