Exponential and logarithmic functions

A population that grows by a fixed percentage each year, a medicine that is eliminated from the blood at a constant rate, a sum of money that increases in value with compound interest: all these processes multiply a quantity by the same factor at each time step, rather than always adding the same amount. That behaviour is that of the exponential function, and its inverse, the logarithmic function, is the tool for "undoing" that growth and solving for time.

When plotting the functions $f(x) = 2^{x}$ and $g(x) = 2^{-x}$ together, a student claims: 'they are symmetrical with respect to the $X$ axis, because one is the exponential function and the other is its opposite'. Reasonably evaluate the statement: state whether it is true or false, make a sketch of both graphs, explain with respect to which axis they are actually symmetrical and confirm it by comparing $f(2)$ with $g(-2)$.

You can do it on paper and send a photo with your answer.
