Exponential and logarithmic equations

A deposit of $5.000$ € grows at $4\%$ per year, so the capital after $t$ years is $C(t)=5.000\cdot1{,}04^t$. How many years are needed to reach $8.000$ €? The unknown is in the exponent: to solve for it we need a new tool, the logarithm, the inverse operation of raising to a power.
