Uniform Rectilinear Motion
A bus (a guagua) travels along the Autopista Duarte on a straight stretch, with the speedometer steady at 80 km/h. Another example: the baggage conveyor belt at the airport. How do we describe with an equation a motion that doesn't slow down, speed up, or swerve, and how do we know where the moving object will be a little later?
What URM Is
A suitcase on an airport conveyor belt moves forward without veering and takes exactly the same time to cover each meter of belt. This is the simplest motion studied in Physical Science.
Explain what the acronym MRU stands for and describe two real-life examples of motion that, at least for a while, can be considered MRU.

The Position Equation
If a cyclist rides at $6\ \text{m/s}$, after $2\ \text{s}$ they will have moved $12\ \text{m}$ and after $5\ \text{s}$, $30\ \text{m}$. But their position on the road depends on where the stopwatch started counting. How do we predict where they will be at any instant if they didn't start at the origin?
Move the sliders for the initial position $x_0$ and the velocity $v$: the line on the $x(t)$ graph and the equation update with your values.
Solving for time and velocity
Sometimes you are asked for the time or the velocity. They are solved from the same equation: $t = \dfrac{x - x_0}{v}$ and $v = \dfrac{x - x_0}{t}$.

Velocity from Two Data Points and Units
If you know that an object in URM was at two positions at two different instants, you can find its velocity. Since $v$ is constant, it is the change in position divided by the time it took:
$$v = \frac{x_2 - x_1}{t_2 - t_1}$$With $v$ and one more piece of data you get $x_0$ and the complete equation.
Converting from km/h to m/s
Vehicles use km/h, but in the equation the units must be consistent. Since $1\ \text{km} = 1{,}000\ \text{m}$ and $1\ \text{h} = 3{,}600\ \text{s}$:
$$\frac{\text{km}}{\text{h}} \div 3.6 = \frac{\text{m}}{\text{s}} \qquad\qquad \frac{\text{m}}{\text{s}} \times 3.6 = \frac{\text{km}}{\text{h}}$$A toy cart undergoing MRU passes position $5\ \text{m}$ at time $t = 0\ \text{s}$ and position $45\ \text{m}$ at $t = 10\ \text{s}$. Meetings and Chases
Two friends set off on bicycles at the same time from two points on Avenida George Washington, on the Malecón, one heading toward the other. At what exact point and after how many seconds do they meet?
Toward each other
When they move in opposite directions, one of the two has negative velocity.
Notice a shortcut: when moving toward each other, they approach at the sum of their velocities ($160\ \text{km/h}$), and $240 \div 160 = 1.5\ \text{h}$. In a chase in the same direction, the gap shrinks at the difference of the velocities.
When one leaves later
If one object leaves $t_s$ later, its time of motion is $(t - t_s)$. Another option: calculate how big a head start the first one has when the second one leaves and treat it as a chase with that initial gap. For example, if one boat leaves at $10\ \text{km/h}$ and another leaves 2 h later at $15\ \text{km/h}$, the first is already $20\ \text{km}$ ahead and the second closes the gap at $5\ \text{km/h}$: it catches up in $20 \div 5 = 4\ \text{h}$ from its own departure.

Back to the beginning: the bus at 80 km/h on a straight stretch of the highway is URM; with $x = x_0 + v \times t$ we know where it will be at any moment, and by setting equations equal we know when it crosses paths with another.
