Symmetries in space
A laser beam bounces off a flat mirror, an object is reflected in a video game, a mechanical part must be symmetric about an axis: in all three cases you are asking for the same kind of point, the symmetric point. And in all three you compute it with the same tool, the midpoint; only what you reflect across changes: a point, a plane, or a line.

Translating a point with a vector
Sometimes the problem moves the point before reflecting it: a drone rises, an object moves across a scene. That is a translation.
