Vectors. Definitions
A motoconcho leaves the Malecón and travels 3 km. Where is it now? You can't tell: you're missing which direction it went. To describe forces, velocities, and displacements you need a number and also an orientation. The mathematical object that captures this is the vector.
Scalar and vector quantities
A vector is written $\vec{v}=(a,b)$ or $\vec{AB}$, and it is not the same as a matrix: a vector is a list of numbers (its components), while a matrix is a table with rows and columns.

Classify the following quantities used in physics and geometry as scalar or vector quantities, briefly justifying your answer based on their definitions:
-
Temperature of a data server ($45^\circ \text{C}$).
-

The vector $\vec{AB}$ and its components
If you know the initial point and the vector, the terminal point is $B = A + \vec{AB}$. For example, a boat at $P(-4,2)$ that follows $\vec v=(8,-3)$ arrives at $Q(-4+8,\ 2-3)=(4,-1)$.

A fishing boat is located at coordinates $P(-4, 2)$ on a nautical chart. If the captain programs the autopilot to make a straight-line movement defined by the vector $\vec{v} = (8, -3)$, determine the coordinates of the destination point $Q$.
Magnitude, direction, and sense
The distance between $A$ and $B$ is the magnitude of $\vec{AB}$: $d(A,B)=\sqrt{(b_1-a_1)^2+(b_2-a_2)^2}$. For $A(-3,5)$ and $B(2,-7)$: $\sqrt{5^2+(-12)^2}=\sqrt{169}=13$.
Parallel vectors
Two vectors are parallel (same direction) if one is a multiple of the other: $\vec v = k\,\vec u$. If $k>0$ they have the same sense; if $k<0$, opposite senses. In components, their coordinates are proportional: $\dfrac{u_1}{v_1}=\dfrac{u_2}{v_2}$.

Equipollent vectors
This is useful for completing parallelograms: in $ABCD$ we have $\vec{AB}=\vec{DC}$. With $A(1,2)$, $B(5,3)$, $C(6,7)$: $\vec{AB}=(4,1)$, and $D=C-\vec{AB}=(2,6)$.

Based on these calculations (and without using the scalar product), justify whether the figure is a rhombus, a square, a rectangle or none of these regular figures.
The position vector
Vectors as a difference of position vectors
Since $\vec{AB}=\vec{OB}-\vec{OA}$, any vector between two points can be written using position vectors. This lets you express a vector as a linear combination of others: sums and multiples.
Dividing a segment
To find the points that divide $PQ$ into three equal parts, use $\vec{PQ}$: the points are $P+\tfrac13\vec{PQ}$ and $P+\tfrac23\vec{PQ}$. With $P(-2,1)$ and $Q(7,-5)$: $\vec{PQ}=(9,-6)$, and the dividing points are at $(1,-1)$ and $(4,-3)$.
The symmetric point of $A$ with respect to $P$ is $A'$ with $\vec{AP}=\vec{PA'}$, that is $A'=2P-A$.
